Hong Kongers! One of my photographs (the ‘Man with Pipe’) will be up for sale at an exhibition in Hong Kong this weekend. The event is being held to raise money for the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC), a Nepali charity.
In Nepal, when a woman is imprisoned, her children will accompany her if no other family members are willing to care for them. The children grow up inside the prison without access to proper nutrition, medical care or education. ECDC runs daycare centres and schools for the children of mothers in jail, and works to support families both inside the prison and after release.
As well as supporting this good cause, it’s also a chance to see the work of a group of new artists in Hong Kong – my fellow exhibitors are depressingly talented… 🙂
The show will run until April 27th, at the Culture Club Gallery on Lower Elgin Street in Soho, Hong Kong. Call +852 2127 7936 for details of opening times. For anyone free this weekend, there will be a launch party (art! charity! wine!) on Sunday April 14th, from 3:30-7:30pm. See you there!
A very worthy cause, I have been inside one of the women’s prisons in Kathmandu when I volunteered in a child protection home and had to take some children to visit their mothers. Even though the children’s’ home was basic, the prison is understandably even more so.
