When I took these pictures I thought there was a good chance that they would be irrelevant by now. After a temporary news blackout while I took a tour through Xinjiang (photos coming soon), I returned to Hong Kong yesterday to find that the city’s pro-democracy protests are still going on – just.
International attention may be ebbing and my facebook newsfeed may have resumed its usual programming (babies now outnumbering the umbrellas and yellow ribbons of a fortnight ago), but a number of the protest stalwarts remain. Having witnessed first-hand China’s ever-tightening domestic policy in Tibet and Xinjiang, I hope Hong Kong’s protesters find success, and find it peacefully.
